เลดิ้เอดา หรือ Ladyada คือใคร?

เอดา ไบรอน เลิฟเลซ (Lady Augusta Ada Byron, Countess of Lovelace) คือโปรแกรมเมอร์
คนแรกของโลกเลยก็ว่าได้ เธอเป็นผู้สนใจศึกษาทางด้านคณิตศาสตร์ และวิทยาศาสตร์เป็นอย่างมาก ซึ่งต่างไปจาก
ผู้หญิงทั่วๆไปในยุคนั้นในอังกฤษ

พออายุได้ 17 ปี ได้รู้จักกับ มิสซิส Somerville หญิงเก่งแห่งยุค ที่เคมบริดจ์มหาวิทยาลัยชื่อดังแห่งอังกฤษ
เอดาได้คลุกคลีกับเพื่อนกลุ่มนี้จนได้รู้จักกับ ชาลส์ แบบบิจ นักคณิตศาสตร์ ในงานสังสรรค์แห่งหนึ่ง ในวันนั้น แบบบิจ ได้กล่าว่า

"จะเป็นอย่างไรถ้าหาเครื่องคำนวณไม่ใช่แค่หยั่งรู้ได้แต่ยังสามารถตอบสนองการหยั่งรู้นั้นได้ด้วย" จบคำพูดนั้น
ไม่มีใครสนใจเลย มีเพียงแต่ เอดา ซึ่งเธอสนใจในงานนี้มาก จึงอาสาช่วยพัฒนา โดยสิ่งที่เธอทำคือ การสร้างภาษาสำหรับเครื่องวิเคราะห์ (analytical engine)
ของ ชาลส์ แบบบิจ

หลังจากนั้นไม่นานเอดาได้แต่งงานและมีลูกสามคน
ผ่านไปสิบปีที่เอดาและแบบบิจยังติดต่อกันทางจดหมาย แลกเปลี่ยนความคิดเห็นเรื่องเครื่องวิเคราะห์อยู่เสมอ
จากเรื่องราวเอดาได้จินตนาการอย่างมากมาย  และให้แบบบิจว่า ให้ลองเขียนแผนการทำงานของเครื่องมือนี้ให้คำนวณ  Bernoulli numbers ขึ้นมา
ต่อมาแบบบิจก็เขียนเสร็จและได้รับการยกย่องว่าเป็น โปรแกรมคอมพิวเตอร์ตัวแรกของโลก และเอดาก็ได้เป็นโปรแกรมเมอร์คนแรงของโลก

ร้อยกว่าปีต่อมาในปี พ.ศ. 2522 กระทรวงกลาโหมสหรัฐฯ ได้สร้างภาษาคอมพิวเตอร์มาตรฐานไอเอสโอขึ้นมาตัวแรก
พร้อมตั้งชื่อว่า Ada เพื่อเป็นเกียรติแก่ เลดี้เอดา

ในช่วงที่ยังมีชีวิตอยู่ เอดาได้รู้จัก และอาสาช่วยงาน พร้อมทั้งอุปการะ นักวิทยาศาสตร์ นักคณิตศาสตร์ รวมทั้งนักเขียนหลายคน เช่น Sir David Brewster คนคิดคาไลโดสโคป, ชาลส์ วีทสโตน, ชาลส์ ดิกเก้นส์, และ ไมเคิล ฟาราเดย์
